If families want their infant or toddler to learn to listen and speak, the Auditory-Options Project will support them in reaching that outcome.

The Auditory-Options Project currently operates within the state of Ohio and strives to expand and support auditory-based services and resources for infants and toddlers 0-3 years who are deaf or hard of hearing, their families, and the professionals who serve them.

The Auditory-Options Project is not a component of any of Ohio's early intervention service departments. However, its activities are designed to work within the framework of, and in conjunction with, existing state operated early intervention programs in a variety of ways.  The Project is privately funded and all of its services are provided without cost to families and professionals.

The Auditory-Options Project also provides information, materials and resources, in-services, and support from staff members and parent mentors to families of children ages 0-3 years who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as to the professional personnel who serve them.

Families of these very young children face many decisions.  One of the most important decisions is: "How should my child be taught to communicate with others?"

The Auditory-Options Project is all about outcomes; what is the family’s vision for their child? Once the outcome is specified, the steps needed to reach that outcome can be explored. If families select spoken communication as a desired outcome for their infant or toddler, the Auditory-Options Project is designed to help them reach their goal.

Once they have full information about possible outcomes and intervention approaches, parents can make educated and confident choices. The Auditory-Options Project staff and parent mentors respect and honor family choices and do not attempt to change them. If parents choose listening and speaking as desired outcomes, this project provides resources and services to assist them, free of charge. All of the information that is provided to the parents can be integrated into the family’s lifestyle.
